Our volunteers play a critical role in the success of our program. From building relationships with participants through on-site support, to fortifying life skills and helping our community access essential resources, our volunteers provide unrivaled support for Stone Soup’s mission.
Coronavirus Update: In response to COVID-19, we have adapted our current volunteer opportunities. Please reach out to Lizzy email@example.com with any questions or concerns.
Current volunteer opportunities:
Help drive/deliver contract meals
Throughout the pandemic Stone Soup transitioned from a brick and mortar to helping our city partners by delivering hot meals to the houseless community. This volunteer opportunity consists of picking up meals from Stone Soup which will come in usually 2-3 boxes. The boxes are loaded into the car and then off for delivery. The total volunteer time for completing the delivery trip is around one hour, though some locations are right around the corner.
Come get your hands dirty in the Garden
This summer, Stone Soup is excited to partner with Grow PDX to be able to offer a fun, hands-on, outdoor volunteer opportunity to come help out on Sundays, weekly at Harrison Park Community Garden. Here we will meet for 2 hours, 10-12, and perform basic garden upkeep while getting a chance to reconnect to the basics of our food system.
Come join us at the Farmers Market and help spread the Stone Soup word!
This summer we will be tabling a couple days in the summer at the Rocky Butte Farmers Market. This is a good opportunity for someone interested who is helping spread the word about our mission and help sell our soup subscriptions! On Wednesdays come join us at the Portland farmer's market that happens on Wednesdays through October at Shemanski Park. Time: 10-2 is the market hours but we would love a volunteer 9-12 or 12-2:15 OR open to the idea that someone comes 9-2:15 if they can
What we need: set up and break down help, chatting with customers about what Stone Soup has to offer, ringing people up through our POS system and heating soups for samples.
Seeking one computer savvy volunteer to help our culinary team
With every meal we send to shelters, we include our menu sheets. These are updated weekly to reflect current numbers and dietary restrictions, and are the main tool our kitchen staff uses when packing meals. Putting together the meal sheets takes between 1 to 2 hours a week. By having a volunteer help with this work, it frees up our kitchen staff to do what they do best: COOKING!
If you have a couple extra hours per week and know your way around a Google Doc, you just might be our next Meal Sheet Hero!
Come Celeb at Stone Soup and host a workshop.
Have a background in food or culinary arts? If you have any specialty skills around food and are interested in being involved from a culinary standpoint, either through a workshop or maybe a celebrity special recipe, feel free to reach out and we can set up further coordination.
